Our Engagement

On May 18th the love of my life proposed to me. I was in the middle of studying for a huge test (my BCaBA, which I passed BTW!) and Derek wanted me to take a break and go on a picnic. The whole way there I should have known it was going to happen, but I did not.

We went to RockBridge State Park. Derek wanted to take my car and I was fine with that. While I was packing us snacks and wine, he hid my ring in the car. He decided to drive, and while on the way there he was getting really sweaty. As he has diabetes, this is a sign that his blood sugar is going low. Usually when I ask he if it's going low, he  snaps at me and tells me he is fine. This time he drank the gatorade, even though he said he was fine and did NOT snap at all! First sign that something was up, but I still didn't realize.

Once we got to the park, we put down a sheet, and began enjoying the day in the park. I put pandora radio on my phone and Derek opened the bottle of wine. He drank no downed two glasses of wine in no time. Another sign that something was up. After drinking his wine he said he needed his phone and he left it in the car. Sign three that something was up. Why would he need his phone if we were having a date day and I had music playing? It still didn't dawn on me. He came back and just a few short minutes later he got down on one knee and proposed. It was the best day of my life. I would not have wanted our engagement any other way. It was perfect!

After I got my ring, we ran to the mall. We did have to take it to get it resized as it was too small since I have such chubby fingers. On the way to the mall, I called my family and my best friends.

It was fun to hear the whole story of how long he had the ring. When my dad came up in April Derek did ask his permission and told him he was going to propose around my birthday in a hot air balloon ride (which is on my bucket list). I ruined the original proposal. When we were talking about hot air balloon rides one week, I asked him if that was how he was going to propose. I guess I should learn to keep my big mouth shut!

Here is a picture of my beautiful ring! He did a fantastic job picking it out!
